All Upgrade/Downgrade shipments are also subject to receipt of acceptable "proof of purchase" as noted in the appropriate RULES section below.

Paradox DOS Upgrade Rules

If you are a legal owner of any Paradox DOS product, you are entitled to a copy of the last maintenance release for that version (this usually means 3.51 for 3.5x owners, and 4.02 for 4.0x owners). Borland and Corel no longer handle these upgrades. However, you can legally get your copy of of 3.51 or 4.02 from any other product owner, such as myself. I pass along these updates the same way Borland did.

Please submit proof of purchase of the earlier release. This can be a scan or copy of the sales slip, invoice, purchase order, etc., or even of the original disks themselves. If you want me to e-mail the files, for transfer to floppies yourself, there is a nominal $5 handling charge. If you want me to make and ship actual floppies myself, for US orders, include $15 for shipping/handling. For other countries, tell me the country and I'll determine the appropriate shipping charge.

If you have the full version of Paradox, you can get a "full version" upgrade. If you have RunTime Paradox, you can get a "runtime" upgrade. Unfortunately, ownership of one does not entitle you to the other, or to both.

You will receive a set of replacement disks (or e-mailed zip files) only. There is no accompanying documentation, because the documentation was unchanged. 3.51 and 4.02 were "bug fix" releases - they did not feature any new or changed functionality. Bear in mind, when upgrading 4.0x to 4.02, that 4.02 was the first release that did not use serial numbers, but you are still required to adhere to all licensing and user count rules.

The standard "upgrade" rules do NOT allow you to use your existing copies of 3.5x to upgrade to 4.02 or 4.5, or to use your existing copies of 4.0x to upgrade to 4.5. You must purchase the desired later version, or "downgrade" to it from any version more recent than the one that is needed (see below). In all cases, you are required to adhere to all licensing and user count rules.

If you are a legal owner of Paradox DOS 4.5, and need to maintain "3.5 style" Compatible Mode apps  in 4.02, you can legally "downgrade" to 4.02 in the same manner as above, again within the standard licensing rules. The 4.5 manuals were exactly the same as the 4.0 manuals, with the addition of the little "4.5 Upgrade Guide" that lists the many changed and added PAL commands in version 4.5.

Using the same logic, you can "downgrade" Paradox Windows user counts to Paradox DOS 4.02 or 4.5. If you are trying to purchase additional program copies to maintain legal user counts, it is often much easier (and less expensive) to use copies of outdated Paradox Windows versions,. rather than Paradox DOS versions, and "downgrade" those user counts to the DOS product, again within the standard licensing rules.
